It happened again. I was going to a playground with the boys and some friends this last weekend.
Our friends had met some people the night before and invited them to also join us. It ended up that they lived walking distance from the playground.
When I met the mom she seemed very nice. We started talking and over the course of the next hour she asked me about what I did for a living. I told her I was an author and in real estate.
Normally people don’t press for anything more. And… I don’t offer.
This time she did. She asked me question after question about my writing. She asked so many different things that I eventually thought it might be ok to tell her the story. (Since I am publishing it after all.)
So I did. When I finished she looked at me with a surprised look on her face and said, “I just lost my mother two weeks ago.”
Then she said something and while she was talking the world was tilting. She said, “I just want to know she is ok. I wish she could tell me.”
And when the world was tilting the words fell out of my mouth, “Everything, is ok.”
She didn’t say anything. I didn’t either. Later she asked if she could contact me. I gave her my information. She sent a message that day on Facebook to the books page “The Gift Giver – A true story” and said, “My mom sent me Jennifer to tell me everything is ok.”
I’m sure she did. And…it is.
